Question: Gun Shot Residue.

Answer:

Yes, we know GSR also means Gun Shot Residue. Given that some of our volunteer readers would dearly love to shoot our list-serve, it seems appropriate.

Question: What’s with all the typos and weird characters?

Answer:

We recently moved to a larger database. Unfortunately this introduced some odd looking text into our pages, posts and comments. We are working (albeit slowly) to make corrections.

Question: Do you have a “one-time rights” publishing policy?

Answer:

Although we do not have a “one time use” policy due to the nature of our site, we do consider the author of any original work to be the “rights” holder and will always defer to their expressed wishes.

If you submit work to another website or a print publisher, we only ask that you credit Getting Something Read as having published the work previously. Some commercial and non-commercial publishers will not allow work to be published concurrently. If that is the case, please contact us and we will remove your work from our site or its archives.

Question: Do you pay?

Answer:

No. This site is supported entirely by donations and run by volunteers. While we believe that writers should be compensated for their work, at present, we cannot afford to do this.

Question: How can I contribute to GSR?

Answer:

You can help pay for some of GSR’s operating costs by using this link to shop at Amazon.com and bookmarking or saving it as a “Favorite” in your browser.

Question: Do you accept work that is longer than 12 to 24 lines of poetry or 750 words?

Answer:

No. But, we might.

Question: Do you publish plays?

Answer:

Yes. Very short plays or monologues.

You should also check out The Writers/Directors Forum at The Looking Glass Theatre.

Question: Why do you “recycle” posts?

Answer:

Recycling allows us to bring previously published works back to the “home” page. It’s a simple means of showcasing previously published work, giving it more exposure.

Recycled post are entirely random.

Question: Why do you occasionally have depressing videos and posts about AIDs and poverty on your site?

Answer:

Because we who are privileged need to remember those who are not. Because we who are safe, well and comfortable need to remember those who are suffering from violence, disease and want.
