New Year’s Haiku 2013

by Neal Whitman, Poetry Prof.

With a new calendar, in our home we renew the annual reading, one chapter per month, of Seasoning: A Poet’s Year With Season Recipes by David Young. Each chapter is one month with his musings plus recipes using local produce. In his poetry, Mr. Young tries to be a writer of “place” – his is Northern Ohio. This year my wife, Elaine, and I have made a New Year’s Resolution to be better at participating in civic and cultural activities of our “place” – ours is the Monterey Peninsula on the central coast of California. We live in Pacific Grove.
