When I collected the materials

by Cithara Patra

When I collected the materials
Each scrap and button to sew
Every lace, leather, and velvet ribbon
To tie into perfect knots
I let the thread run through and through
Stitching in time, saving pieces left behind
Closed up the holes
Tied off the ends
Shut tight so the world couldn’t see
What a mess I had made
Of the dress I was trying to make
